The Making of "Big Blue"
1) Picking gourds of the right shape and size to fit the subject.
2) Forming the body.
3) Attaching the pieces for the body.
4) Piecing together the neck
and preparing to attach the legs.
5) Attaching the legs.
6) Strengthening the neck
with paper mache.
7) Adding shape to the
head and neck with clay.
8) Getting ready to form the legs and make the breeding plummage.
9) Legs, breeding plummage, tail feathers, and wings have been added and/or carved.
10) Eyes have been added and painting has begun.
11) Bolting "Big Blue" to his
habitat (from under the table).
12) Crating "Big Blue" for the long, bumpy ride from Houston to Kerrville.
13) "Big Blue" arrives safe and sound - ready for the show!
